Julian Schuster's Black Forest club have commanded a season beyond anyone's expectations, by making it to the semi-final stage of both their domestic and continental cup inclinations. They however arrive this fixture with a difficult bind in terms of form which has seen them navigate their past four games with three damning defeats. Against Stuttgart (2-1) to knock them out of the DFB Cup, to Braga in the initial tie of this fixture and by a thumping four-nil margin to Borussia Dortmund. Carlos Vicens' Braga are on 13 continental wins since last season. Their 92nd-minute winner through Mario Dorgelas changed the tie and now they take a narrow lead to the ground where Freiburg have been European perfectionists. The last time a Portuguese club reached a European final was Benfica back in the 2013-14 Europa League. This is Braga's second major European semi-final (their first since the 2010-11 Europa League, when they reached the final on away goals against Benfica). Away at Freiburg's ground, knowing that a draw in extra time or penalties would favour Braga given the aggregate , they will set up to defend and counter.
